Nearly $1 Million in Funding Awarded to Local Communities, Reichard Says

WAYNESBORO – Rep. Chad Reichard (R-Franklin) announced that several communities in the 90th Legislative District received nearly $1 million in funding through Local Share Account (LSA) grants.

“This funding will aid communities across the district with fulfilling vital, unique needs,” Reichard said. “I’m pleased to have supported projects that will have positive impacts on the lives of residents in the district.”

The following municipalities were awarded grants:

• Mercersburg Borough, on behalf of the Mercersburg Water Authority, received $500,000 to install 30 valves and replace 493 outdated residential meters and a master meter to improve billing accuracy and deploy automated valve exercising equipment to ensure long-term system reliability.

• Antrim Township, on behalf of Rescue Hose Company #1 Fire Engine, received $250,000 for the purchase of a new fire engine to replace its 25-year-old apparatus.

• Waynesboro Borough, on behalf of the Waynesboro Area YMCA, received $200,000 to renovate its two gymnasiums, including upgrades to HVAC, electrical systems, roofing, flooring, doors, paint and other infrastructure.

• Waynesboro Borough received $25,509 to purchase 21 new TASER devices, replacing outdated models.

“Mercersburg’s aging water system has reached a point where these upgrades are necessary to improve reliability and address deficiencies before they become larger and more costly problems,” Reichard said. “This investment will modernize critical infrastructure, allow the authority to better manage repairs and disruptions, and help ensure Mercersburg residents have a dependable water system.”

The grants were approved and awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, which was established as an independent agency that holds fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments in Pennsylvania’s economic growth. LSA grants are derived from gaming revenues.
