Reichard, Moul Congratulate Dr. Robert Zimmerman on Humanitarian Award

February 2, 2026

HARRISBURG - Reps. Chad Reichard (R-Franklin) and Dan Moul (R-Adams) joined the Rotary Club of Gettysburg as Dr. Robert R. Zimmerman of Waynesboro was presented with the Dwight D. Eisenhower Humanitarian Award during a luncheon at the Hotel Gettysburg.

“The man we affectionately call Dr. Bob has been a stalwart in the Waynesboro community for decades,” Reichard said. “But his work stretches well beyond Franklin County. Dr. Bob has helped countless people locally, and across the globe, through humanitarian missions. He very much deserved the recognition he received from the Rotary Club and others. I, along with residents of Franklin County, thank Dr. Bob for all he’s done for so many.”

Zimmerman was recognized for a lifetime of humanitarian service, including leading more than 60 dental missions worldwide to provide free care to underserved populations in Central America, South America, Europe, Africa and Asia.

Reichard and Moul presented Zimmerman with a citation from the state House of Representatives.

Locally, Zimmerman provided free dental care for 26 years at a clinic near McConnellsburg in Fulton County and, for the past two years, to Adams County Head Start preschool children. He also chaired or co-chaired fundraising efforts for numerous nonprofit organizations in south-central Pennsylvania.

“I am honored and humbled to recognize Bob’s extraordinary life, career and service to not only the citizens of our area, but strangers in faraway places who have known little comfort and whose needs exceed what we can imagine,” said Moul. “His dental missions have taken him to the far reaches of the globe where he has compassionately sought to alleviate the pain and suffering of people he didn’t know and who lacked the access and means to attain such services. Bob exemplifies a true humanitarian. I can think of no one more deserving of this award.”

Zimmerman also received an original plaque by sculptor Gary Casteel, a citation from the Pennsylvania Senate and a letter of congratulations from Susan Eisenhower, granddaughter of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, for whom the award is named. The Rotary Club made a $1,000 donation to the Rotary Foundation and a contribution to Zimmerman’s chosen charity, Safina Street Mission, which supports street children in Tanzania. Zimmerman has participated in 14 missions with the organization.

Zimmerman recently retired after 47 years of dental practice in Waynesboro. He and his wife, Linda Fry Zimmerman, have five adult children and 16 grandchildren.
